Game Drives are included in your stay on all of Gondwana’s packages. Each game drive includes a beverage and snack on drive and Afternoon Tea prior to evening Game drive.

Game Drives

Departure Times

Game Drives are included in your stay on all of Gondwana’s packages. Each game drive includes a beverage and snack on drive and Afternoon Tea prior to evening Game drive.

The Lodge Team will, upon check-in, endeavour to facilitate young family Game Drives at no additional charge for families with children aged 4 – 5.99 years of age.

Tented Bush SPA

Gondwana’s bush spa offers a full treatment menu utilizing the luxurious and all natural Africology product. The 2 treatment rooms are completely private and well positioned to take in the breath taking surrounds. Signature treatments include the anti-aging Sundowner facial, African Bliss Body wrap, and Love Bird’s Nest couples package. The spa is a wonderful compliment to the overall restorative guest experience on the reserve – come and revitalize yourself with nature’s touch, tone and tempo

Birding Safarai

The reserve supports healthy populations of sought after endemics such as the Cape Sugarbird, Orange Breasted Sunbird, Protea Seedeater, and Black Harrier.

Gondwana is also home to our special annual migrants, the Amur falcon, Alpine Swift and European White Stork.

The reserve’s landscape comprises of open grass plains and plateaus, wetlands, fynbos and renosterveld hills, riverine and sub-tropical thicket valleys and cliff faces. The array of vegetation types allows for a variety of bird species. Denhams Bustard, Blue Crane, African Fish eagle, Verreaux’s eagle, Ostrich, Secretary bird, Jackal Buzzard, African Stone Chat, Cape Grassbird, Malachite Sunbird, Amethyst Sunbird, Black crowned night heron, and Bokmakierie are all prominent species on the reserve.

Guided Fynbos Walks

Activities on Gondwana are under the escort of experienced field guides who know the bush and its secrets intimately. Their passion for sharing experiences is enthralling, particularly the rich botanical heritage of Fynbos. Fynbos is one of the world’s six Floral Kingdoms, the smallest yet richest of the kingdoms. Similar to wild flowers Fynbos creates a tapestry of colour and ongoing interest as it is ever changing. So come and experience the authentic Garden Route hiking trails.

Walks are conducted in the 1200 hectare Protected Endangered Species Area. The entire area is fenced from dangerous game.

Our Fynbos biome is unique and spectacular to walk through, guests will be introduced to the fascinating plants and their life cycles, as well as endemic birds and animals that reside in the fynbos areas on Gondwana.

Mountain Bikes

Gondwana offers 4 demarcated mountain biking routes situated in the Reserve’s 1200 hectare protected and endangered species area. The trails are for unguided rides on demarcated routes for a maximum 8 riders – 6 adults and 2 children. The routes are graded from intermediate to advanced. We have complimentary mountain bikes with helmets for use in this area. Please enquire at Reception as regards making a booking and receiving a map of the trails.

Bicycles

We have 8 Mountain Bikes and helmets available for Guests to use. These are all made by Giant, and 6 of the bikes are 29-inch bikes (bigger wheel than the conventional 26inch), we also have 2 x 24 inch Kids bikes (up to 12 years can ride). Bike hire is free of charge for guests staying at Gondwana.

All of the bikes are housed in the Activity Shed, which is situated in the Protected area, just off the Milkwood road (There is signage from the Red Rocks gate to the activity shed.)

Routes are as follows

Red Route – 7.44km – Novice Rating

This route is on Reserve dirt roads, and great for the whole family to enjoy.

Blue Route – 8.62km – Intermediate Rating

This route has a short bit of Reserve Roads in the beginning and the end, and then goes on to Jeep Tracks, then a long decent down the valley, some loose areas, then climbs back up towards the Milkwood Roads. A good fitness level is required as there is a good 2,5km of climbing as well as some technical sections, so previous experience is essential.

Green Route – 10.4km – Advanced Rating

This route follows the Blue Route on the descent and then halfway on the climb out of the valley, it turns left and drops down and then runs along the hills and has a very steep climb. This route is definitely for more experienced riders.

Orange Route – 2km loop off the Green Route so 12,4km – Advanced Rating

This is off the green route and is an advanced loop with some steep climbs and then joins back onto the green route. Again, for Experienced and fit riders.

Our Location

The reserve is ideally located a four-hour drive from Cape Town or 45 minutes from George Airport. There are numerous daily flights from Johannesburg and Cape Town International Airports to George and transfers to and from the Reserve can be arranged at an additional cost

Wedding Ceremony Venue

Both Lehele Lodge and Kwena Lodge offer elegant safari lodge venues with expansive indoor and outdoor facilities and panoramic views of the magnificent landscape. You also have the option of an intimate Bush Ceremony Venue remotely located in the Reserve.

Bush / Game Reserve Venue

Ceremony: The Ceremony can be set up remotely in the Reserve with or without a tent. Reception: For the ultimate safari wedding your ceremony and reception can be situated in the Reserve using Bedouin tents overlooking the dramatic scenery. Capacity: will vary depending on tent chosen.

We offer Pan African Cuisine which is a mixture of elements from the European and African art of cooking. Our wine list comprises of fantastic South African wines from the Cape area. Child Policy

Families are booked into exclusive use Bush or Fynbos Villas for their comfort and convenience (cots and high chairs are available).

Private Vehicles may be hired for families with children between the age of 2 and 6 at a charge of R3000 per drive. Private vehicles are subject to availability.Where possible we try to group young families together at no extra charge at the time of stay.
Children’s’ menus are available. Please advise us should your children have any specific dietary requests, and we will gladly accommodate them.
If parents wish to dine in privacy, baby sitting can be arranged in the Villas with in room dining meals for kids to enjoy.
Gondwana offers babysitting facilities (R150/sitter/hr), subject to availability.
The Junior Ranger experience is available for all children visiting Gondwana.

The Junior Ranger Programme

Is complimentary for all Full Board and Half Board guests with children.
With a dedicated children’s guide, the program includes educational Game Drives and interactive conservation activities.
The younger children’s activities will be based mainly around the lodge to stay closer to parents.
On arrival, families will be informed about the Junior Ranger program and their ranger will enquire about any special requests, dietary, babysitting or otherwise.
Children will receive a fun Ranger’s backpack and cool safari booklet to fill in throughout their stay. During game drives and other activities with their ranger, kids will be taught how to identify mammals, birds, Fynbos species, and even stars. They will gain a greater understanding of conservation and our precious eco systems.

Various beds in the villas can be split into a twin configuration.
Children’s menus are available for lunch and dinner. Please do advise the Reservations Team of any specific dietary requirements so that we may accommodate them.
If parents wish to have dinner at the lodge without their young children, babysitting and in-room dining can be arranged in the Villas. Parents’ meals can also be delivered to the villa, though our chefs would prefer you to experience Gondwana’s cuisine first hand in the lodge dining areas.
Villa picnic baskets are available as a lunch alternative for families, as well as fishing picnics subject to availability.

Airport Transfers can be arranged at an additional charge and must be pre booked via our reservations department.

Conservation fees – R400.00 per adult per stay and R200.00 per child per stay. Please note Conservation Fees apply and are not included in online or quoted rates.

If a cancellation is made 31 days or more prior to arrival – no cancellation fees will apply.
Any bank or credit card refund administration fees will be charged to the guest.

If a booking is cancelled due to disinclination to travel 30 – 15 days prior to travel, a 15% cancellation fee will apply.
If a booking is cancelled due to disinclination to travel 14 days or less prior to travel, full cancellation fees will apply.
If a booking is cancelled due to the Covid pandemic declared by the World Health Organisation, and a guest is prevented from utilizing their booking due to any governmental regulation or any medical incident relating to this, all cancellation costs will be waived and all monies will be refunded, regardless of the cancellation period. The guest will be charged any bank or credit card refund administration fees.

Group Cancellation Policy

If a cancellation is made 46 days or more prior to arrival – 0% cancellation fees apply.
If a cancellation is made 45 days or less prior to arrival, full cancellation fees apply.
If number of Pax travelling within a group is reduced within 30 days prior to arrival, there will be no charge
A 10% admin fee will be retained for cancellations made after the card has been charged.

Payment Policy

For all bookings made within 30 days of travel
Full payment Is required within 48 hours of your booking. This payment can be made via bank transfer or credit card (Master/Visa).
For all bookings made more than 30 days of travel
A 50% deposit Is required within 48 hours of your booking and the balance 30 days prior to arrival. This payment can be made via bank transfer or credit card (Master/Visa).

DIRECTIONS TO GONDWANA FROM CAPE TOWN

Distance: approximately 380kms, 4 hours

Exit the city onto the N2 highway
Travel on the N2 highway towards George / Mossel Bay – you will be on the N2 for the majority of the trip
Take a left turn at ( R327) the Herbertsdale / Mossdustria road just before the Petroport and Engen One-Stop. NOTE – Do not turn at the first Herbertsdale turn off the N2, wait until R327!!
Travel on this road for 14.5kms – cross over the railway line and stay on the road
Turn Right at the Gondwana Game Reserve sign (large brown tourism sign)
Go over the cattle grid and keep RIGHT at the fork in the dirt road
The Gondwana entrance gate will be on this road (3.2km from fork)
Check in with security who will direct you to Kwena Lodge

DIRECTIONS TO GONDWANA FROM GEORGE AIRPORT
Distance: approximately 60kms, 45 minutes

Take a right out of the airport exit
Follow this road past the airport to the Mossel Bay ramp. Turn right onto the N2 highway heading to Mossel Bay
Travel on the N2 approximately 40 kilometres past Mossel Bay towards Cape Town (do not get off at the Mossel Bay exits)
The N2 will wrap you around a detour of Mossel Bay and head you past the Engen and Total garages on your left and right respectively
Shortly after the Total Garage turn right at the HERBERTSDALE (R327) turn, there is a turning lane
Travel on this tar road for 14.5kms – cross over the railway line and stay on the road
Turn Right at the Gondwana Game Reserve sign (large brown tourism sign)
Go over the cattle grid onto dirt road. Keep RIGHT at the fork in the road
The Gondwana entrance gate will be on this road (3.2km from fork)
Check in with security who will direct you to Kwena Lodge
