Your base during the program will be in our eco-friendly tented camp set in a protected valley blanketed in Fynbos in the heart of the game reserve. The camp facilities include 5 large, comfortable twin or double share tents set on raised decks each with an ensuite bathroom and covered deck area (2 additional tents are for staff). All meals are provided in the recreational communal tent area which includes kitchen, lounge, dining, and covered deck areas, as well as an outdoor dining boma. Game Drives

Each drive includes beverage and snack on drive and Afternoon Tea prior to evening Game drive.
Minimum of 2 persons per Game Drive, maximum of 10.

Tented Bush SPA

Located at Kwena Lodge with 2 treatment rooms.
Utilises Africology products. Treatments range from facials, body wraps, waxing, massage, manicures and pedicures.
Kiddies treatments on offer: facials, massage, manicure and pedicures.

Bass Fishing

There are two dams that one can fish at in the 1200 hectare Protected Endangered Species Area. The entire area is fenced from dangerous game.
Strict catch and release policy applies.
Includes basic fishing gear and a soft beverage.
Children 4 years and older are welcome. Maximum 4 persons.
Guests can order a picnic as a lunch option whilst fishing.
Guests will be charged when on Half Board basis. Picnic lunches to be pre-arranged prior.

Guided Fynbos Walks

Walks are conducted in the 1200 hectare Protected Endangered Species Area. The entire area is fenced from dangerous game.

No children under the age of 12 years old permitted on guided walks with a maximum of 6 persons – excluding guide.
Our Fynbos biome is unique and spectacular to walk through, guests will be introduced to the fascinating plants and their life cycles, as well as endemic birds and animals that reside in the fynbos areas on Gondwana.

Fynbos Conservation Experience

The Fynbos experience is conducted in different monitoring zones throughout the reserve lead by our resident botanist.
Guests will assist in identifying, recording, monitoring and geo-mapping Fynbos species on the reserve. Guests will collect scientific data and be introduced to live conservation and bio-diversity projects on the Reserve. Participants will gain a greater understanding of Fynbos and the diversity of life that exists within this critically endangered biome. The activity is two to three hours in duration with some walking required.

Mountain Bikes

COMPLIMENTARY OFFERING.
Located in the 1200 hectare Protected Endangered Species Area. The entire area is fenced from dangerous game.

We offer 4 routes starting from the activity shed where the bikes are housed:
Red Route – Novice rider 7.44km’s
Blue Route – Novice rider 8.62km’s
Green Route – Advanced rider 10.4km’s
Orange Route – Advanced rider 12.4km’s
Please make bike reservations in advance to ensure availability.
Unguided rides on demarcated routes for a maximum of 6 adult riders and 2 children, (6 adult bikes and 2 children’s bikes).

The Junior Ranger Programme

Is complimentary for all Full Board and Half Board guests with children.
With a dedicated children’s guide, the program includes educational Game Drives and interactive conservation activities.
The younger children’s activities will be based mainly around the lodge to stay closer to parents.
On arrival, families will be informed about the Junior Ranger program and their ranger will enquire about any special requests, dietary, babysitting or otherwise.
Children will receive a fun Ranger’s backpack and cool safari booklet to fill in throughout their stay. During game drives and other activities with their ranger, kids will be taught how to identify mammals, birds, Fynbos species, and even stars. They will gain a greater understanding of conservation and our precious eco systems.

CHILDREN’S POLICY

Pricing

Children 0 - 5 years of age stay free of charge when sharing with two full paying adults.
Children 12 years and older pay the full adult rate.

Game Drives

Children under age of 6 not permitted on Game Drives, only on a private vehicle.
Children under the age of 2 years old are not permitted on a Game Drive for their own safety.
A private vehicle can be reserved at additional cost of R3 000 per day, to facilitate children from 2 - 6 years of age on Game Drives, should the family require this. This option is only bookable 48 hours prior to arrival and is subject to availability.
The Lodge Team will, upon check-in, endeavour to facilitate young family Game Drives at no additional charge for families with children aged 4 – 6 years of age.

• A 15% non-refundable deposit is required 30 days prior to arrival to confirm and guarantee the booking.
• The balance to be settled 15 days prior to arrival.
• If a booking is cancelled due to a pandemic declared by the World Health Organisation, and a guest is prevented from taking up their booking due to any governmental regulation or any medical incident relating to this, all cancellation costs will be waived and all monies will be refunded, regardless of the cancellation period.
• If a booking is cancelled due to disinclination to travel 30 - 15 days prior to travel, a 15% cancellation fee will apply.
• If a booking is cancelled due to disinclination to travel 14 days or less to travel, full cancellation fees will apply.
• If a booking is made 15 days or less prior to arrival, full prepayment will be required within 48 hours to confirm the booking.

Groups:
• A 15% deposit is required 45 days prior to arrival to guarantee the booking.
• The balance to be settled 30 days prior to arrival.
• The only occasion we may request a deposit sooner, is in the case whereby a serious booking request for the same inventory from another source could be confirmed. This deposit will be fully refundable until such time as our standard cancellation terms apply.
• If a booking is cancelled due to a pandemic declared by the World Health Organisation, and a guest is prevented from taking up their booking due to any governmental regulation or any medical incident relating to this, all cancellation costs will be waived and all monies will be refunded, regardless of the cancellation period. In case of a medical incident, documentation will be required.
• If a booking is made 30 days or less prior to arrival, full prepayment will be required within 48 hours to confirm the booking.

3 AND 5 NIGHT CONSERVATION EXPERIENCE

Gondwana Game Reserve has developed a one of a kind conservation tourism experience for individuals, families or groups who want to get more involved in Africa on their safari. Participants will be involved in wildlife and field management, learn important bush skills and interpretation, and simply enjoy a behind the scenes view of a Big Five private game reserve. The research and findings from the program are fed back to Gondwana’s conservation department to assist in decision making enhancing the reserve management plan. The itinerary will include plenty of game drives, bush walks, and downtime in an utterly inspiring landscape. This is your chance to get involved with the important conservation work of a Big Five game reserve and not only enjoy but contribute. Your base during the program will be in our eco-friendly, solar powered, stylish tented camp set in a protected Fynbos valley in the heart of the game reserve. The camp facilities include 5 large, comfortable twin or king share tents set on raised platforms each with a private bathroom and covered deck area. All meals are provided in the camp’s outdoor dining boma or in the main communal tent which includes kitchen, lounge, and dining areas, with a nearby pool and hammock relaxation area. The safari style cuisine is wholesome, homemade and hearty with braais and stews for dinner and wraps and salads for lunch. A private dedicated team of three (two expert field guides and chef) look after up to 10 guests for an incredibly intimate and exclusive experience.

The itinerary starts on a Thursday afternoon
Transport can be arranged from Mossel Bay to the Game Reserve (1 Marsh Street, Mossel Bay Backpackers) for R350pp per trip.

Check-in and lunch at Kwena Lodge at 1 pm
Group departs in Game Viewer at 2 pm to travel to the Tented Camp Site
On Departure day, check out from Eco Camp between 10 and 11 am

Distance: approximately 380kms, 4 hours

Exit the city onto the N2 highway
Travel on the N2 highway towards George / Mossel Bay – you will be on the N2 for the majority of the trip
Take a left turn at ( R327) the Herbertsdale / Mossdustria road just before the Petroport and Engen One-Stop. NOTE – Do not turn at the first Herbertsdale turn off the N2, wait until R327!!
Travel on this road for 14.5kms – cross over the railway line and stay on the road
Turn Right at the Gondwana Game Reserve sign (large brown tourism sign)
Go over the cattle grid and keep RIGHT at the fork in the dirt road
The Gondwana entrance gate will be on this road (3.2km from fork)
Check in with security who will direct you to Kwena Lodge

DIRECTIONS TO GONDWANA FROM GEORGE AIRPORT

Distance: approximately 60kms, 45 minutes

Take a right out of the airport exit
Follow this road past the airport to the Mossel Bay ramp. Turn right onto the N2 highway heading to Mossel Bay
Travel on the N2 approximately 40 kilometres past Mossel Bay towards Cape Town (do not get off at the Mossel Bay exits)
The N2 will wrap you around a detour of Mossel Bay and head you past the Engen and Total garages on your left and right respectively
Shortly after the Total Garage turn right at the HERBERTSDALE (R327) turn, there is a turning lane
Travel on this tar road for 14.5kms – cross over the railway line and stay on the road
Turn Right at the Gondwana Game Reserve sign (large brown tourism sign)
Go over the cattle grid onto dirt road. Keep RIGHT at the fork in the road
The Gondwana entrance gate will be on this road (3.2km from fork)
Check in with security who will direct you to Kwena Lodge
