Idiom Wine Estate

Idiom is a celebration of wine and words. The award-winning range of premium wines stems from the Bottega family’s Da Capo Vineyards, which are located in the southernmost part of the Stellenbosch wine region, near Sir Lowry's Pass, overlooking False Bay. The range consists of big, bold blends of noble varietals and single cultivar renditions of Italian and Mediterranean grape varietals, all uniquely expressed in a Cape idiom. Waterkloof Estate 

In 1993 Paul Boutinot commenced his search for a vineyard site with the potential to produce truly fine wine with a defining sense of origin. The classic areas, capable of growing naturally balanced grapes such as the Cote d’Or, Chablis, Paulliac, Barolo, etc. were either unavailable or unattainable (rich men’s toys), so he had to find a new classic. It took ten years to narrow the search down to a small area on the south-facing slopes of the Schapenberg, overlooking False Bay in the Cape. As soon as he was led up a steep ravine opening out into a hidden amphitheatre of potential, all his experience and intuition told him: THIS IS IT! Waterkloof was born, and the hard work began. Lourensford Wine Estate

Lourensford Estate was once part of neighbouring Vergelegen, which was established by Willem Adriaan van der Stel in 1709. The Estate has a proud history as a world class fruit farm and the winemaking tradition was revived when Dr Christo Wiese purchased Lourensford in 1998. Early History The earliest traces of human activity in the Hottentots Holland Valley are to be found at Grootnek and Uitzicht, two locations deep in the heart of Lourensford Estate. The Uitzicht stoneage midden has early and middle stoneage artifacts (150 000 – 200 000 years BC) that are leached out of the soil by winter rains. After this period, San peoples occupied the Valley and a single painting remains, as well as flint arrowheads and bone tools which leach out of the soils.
